Aoraki Mt Cook Big Sky Stargazing tour

Big Sky Stargazing Tour

During your stay at Aoraki Alpine Lodge, don’t forget to look up and enjoy the spectacular clear night sky of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve.

Mt Cook Village is situated in the heart of the reserve, which is an area of unparalleled dark, clear night skies where light pollution is strictly controlled. It is the best of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and one of only a few on the planet.

Big Sky Stargazing offers expert-guided tours of the night sky over Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. Explore the stars using the naked eye, astro-binoculars and state of the art 14″ and 11″ astronomy telescopes. The tour is delivered either from an outdoor viewing platform at a purpose-built stargazing building, or if the weather is unfavourable then your guide leads you through a “live” orientation of our southern night sky indoors, reclined in comfortable seats of a digital dome planetarium theatre.

Our team is happy to help Aoraki Alpine Lodge guests with information about stargazing tours.
