THE AORAKI
ALPINE LODGE STORY
Our story began when Mt Cook Village locals Tony and Adele Delaney decided they wanted to offer comfortable, affordable, family-friendly accommodation for visitors to Aoraki Mount Cook National Park.
When Aoraki Alpine Lodge opened its doors on September 5, 2005, it was the first new accommodation built in the park in nearly 50 years. These images show the early days of the lodge, starting from earth moving and construction.

Both Tony and Adele grew up in Mt Cook Village, and that sense of home is shared with every visitor who stays at Aoraki Alpine Lodge. We’ve gained a reputation not only for our great location as a base to experience the wonders of Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, but also for our welcoming, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.
The Alpine Lodge team hails from throughout New Zealand and around the world. They’re here for the special experience of living in the national park, and have amazing local knowledge from their own Mount Cook adventures to share with our guests.
