OUR LOCATION

Aoraki Alpine Lodge is situated in Mt Cook Village, in the fantastic mountain playground of Aoraki Mount Cook National Park.

Mt Cook Village is ideally located midway between Christchurch and Queenstown. This makes it a great stop-over destination when exploring the South Island.

Driving times:

  • Christchurch – Aoraki Mount Cook: 330 km, around 3 1/2 to 4 hours’ drive.
  • Queenstown – Aoraki Mount Cook: 271 km, around 3 to 3 1/2 hours’ drive.

(All depending on your photo stops, of course!)

Aoraki Alpine Lodge is centrally located in Mt Cook Village on Bowen Drive, opposite the Department of Conservation Visitor Centre and the Old Mountaineers Cafe.

When you arrive at the village from State Highway 80, turn right, drive up the hill, then take the first left. Follow this road to the top of the hill (about 200 metres) and you will see us on the right hand side. Parking is free and outside the building or at the rear.

WINTER

TRAVEL CONDITIONS

Winter is beautiful, but it can also be severe in the alpine environment of Aoraki Mount Cook Village. The South Island of New Zealand often sees significant amounts of snow in the coldest months, and ice is another danger on the roads. We recommend that winter travellers carry chains for their vehicles at all times, and be prepared for sudden changes of weather with the possibility of road closures due to snowfall.

The latest information on road closures is available here on the New Zealand Transport Agency website.
